WAEC Result: Meaning of No Result, Held, Withheld & Outstanding
West African Examination Council, WAEC [May/June], [GCE] Held, Withheld, Outstanding and Pending Results Meaning and Updates.
WAEC May/June & GCE Held, Withheld, Outstanding & No Result Updates (OPINION 1)
1. Meaning of WAEC Withheld WAEC Result
This occurs when almost all the candidates in a particular centre had same grade [i.e copying from another candidate]. WAEC will further investigate the result. If truly the candidates engaged in any form of malpractice during the exam, such results and subject affected in that center would be cancelled entirely. But if reverse is the case, they would be released.
Possibility of Release: Slim
2. Meaning of WAEC Held Result
‘Held’ means such candidate has violated the rules & regulations guiding the conduct of the examination. National Examination Council which is NEC will meet to decide the fate of such candidate.
Possibility of Release: Slim
NB: Results of candidates are usually ‘Held/Withheld’ for further investigations when there’s a report(s) that those candidates had violated the rules and regulations guiding the conduct of the examination..
3. Meaning of Outstanding/Pending in WAEC Result
‘Outstanding’ means ‘Pending’ and this occurs as a result of errors committed by candidates either during registration and or examination. Such errors are usually corrected and results of candidates released subsequently.
Possibility of Release: High
4. Meaning of ‘Result Not Available for This Candidate in the Specified Year and Exams Diet‘ in WAEC Result
This often happened to candidates that registered with special centres, Or candidates whose center has issues with WAEC, well affected candidates are to keep checking the WAEC portal as he result will definitely be released after proper investigation.
Possibility of release: Medium.
OR
The above statement means any of this:
1. Results yet to be uploaded (You can check back later or check back in a week or two weeks time)
2. You chose the wrong exam type or year while checking your result.
So, if you chose the right exam type and year, then don’t panic, your result will be uploaded later.
NOTE: If you are not guilty of any examination offenses and your result shows any of the tags stated above, there is high possibility of release.
If after the NEC Meeting and your results or subject are not being released or being held just note that it has been cancelled.

NB: Other candidates that might not see their results are candidates whose state government sponsored their examinations and are yet to pay the West African Examination Council (WAEC).
According to WAEC some state governments are owing and for this reason the results of the sponsored candidates would be withheld until the concerned governments pay up.
So as a student, to avoid panic and fear do well to confirm if your State Government is Owing WAEC and until they clear their debts all Public Secondary Schools in such a state will have their results withheld.
MEANING OF OUTSTANDING, HELD, WITHELD, RESULT NOT AVAILABLE, CANCELLED IN WAEC EXAMINATION RESULTS (OPINION 2)
1. Meaning of WAEC Result showing OUTSTANDING:
There is a very high chance that the result will be released.
Outstanding in some subject(s) mostly occur when a student is recorded as present in exams, but the mark on the subject(s) are not concluded. It can also be cause by extra answer sheet. i.e. when not properly attached or some other factors.
2. Meaning of WAEC Result showing WITHELD:
This occurs when almost all the candidates in a particular centre had same grade. WAEC will further investigate the result. If truly the candidates engaged in any form of malpractice during the exam, such results would be seized and not released. But if reverse is the case, they would be released. Chances of release here is slim.
3. Meaning of WAEC Result showing HELD:
This is almost the same thing with Witheld. Held result mostly occur when a written remark is made on a candidate answer booklet relating to malpractice and other examination offences.
It can also occur when a particular school or exam center is indicted for malpractice.
After proper investigation and the school is vindicated, there is possibility of WAEC releasing the results.
But once it starts showing CANCELLED, just forget it, the result is dead.
4. Meaning of WAEC Result showing RESULT NOT AVAILABLE FOR THIS CANDIDATE IN THE SPECIFIED YEAR AND EXAMS DIET:
These can occur when:
(i) Results are yet to be uploaded. (You can check back later or check back in a week or two weeks time)
(ii) You chose the wrong exam type or year while checking your result.
So, if you chose the right exam type and year, then don’t panic, your result will be uploaded later.
REASON WHY SOME SCHOOLS ARE YET TO BE UPLOADED IS THAT ‘MAYBE’ THE SCHOOL DIDN’T UPLOAD THEIR CANDIDATES’ CONTINUOUS ASSESSMENT!
SO, RELAX WHILE YOUR SCHOOL & WAEC SORT IT OUT!
5. Meaning of WAEC Result showing CANCELLED:
Just go and register for GCE or put your hope on NECO if u wrote the exam. There is no reversal in this type of result. Nothing will make them release it. I don’t know if you are understanding me well.
