University of Benin is one of the renowned Federal Universities in Nigeria founded in 1970 with full-fledged accreditation from National Universities Commission (NUC) in July 1971.
NUC is a Nigerian government regulatory commission which specifies certain conditions to be met by institutions before they are issued an operational license.

It was initially founded Institute of Technology, but its name was later changed by the then Military Governor of Mid-Western Region Col. S. O. Ogbemudia to University of Benin – a name it has maintained up till today. This epoch marking event took place in 1972.
After an appeal from state government, the university was then taken over by Federal Government in April, 1975 and automatically made it a Federal University. UNIBEN Hostel And Fees
University of Benin also provides hostel accommodation for all freshmen. Payments for accommodation are made at designated banks announced by the school from time to time and the fees are subject to change.

Duration Of Studies At UNIBEN
In line with the national education system of 6-3-3-4 meaning that the list an undergraduate can spend doing a program in the university is 4 years. There are variations in courses like Engineering (5 years), Medicine and Surgery (6/7), etc.
UNIBEN Transcripts
Order of transcript at University of Benin is through ETX-NG. This is an electronic platform that enables all ordered transcripts to be sent electronically to the schools were they are needed. This way graduates don’t have to visit the school.

UNIBEN Grading System
In keeping with national standard for grading in universities, grading determines of students’ Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) determines the class of graduation of a student. Grading system is done on a scale of 5.
First Class Division: (100 – 70 with 5.00 – 4.50 CGPA)
Second Class Upper Division: (69 – 60 with 4.49 – 3.50 CGPA)
Second Class Lower Division: (49 – 45 with 3.49 – 2.40 CGPA)
Third Class Division: (49 – 45 with 2.39 – 1.50)
Pass Degree has been abolished by NUC in Nigeria since December 2012 for 2013/2014 academic session.
UNIBEN Admission Requirement
The admission requirement of University of Benin is at least 5 Credits (including English and Mathematics) in one or at most 2 O’ level sittings.
